The Charlotte Bobcats had a tough season last year. No doubt about it. They had a first-year coach in Sam Vincent and a team absent of any true star who could be counted on to take over the game in the clutch. They also struggled with injuries, as Adam Morrison (ACL) and Sean May (microfracture) sat out the entire year with an ACL injury. Gerald Wallace, the Bobcats' second-leading scorer also missed nearly a quarter of the season due to injury. With all of these factors considered, the Bobcats seemed to finish right about where you would have expected them to - with a 32-50 record.Key Additions

They have a heralded coach
Not to dog on Coach Vincent, but you know that Larry Brown is the real deal. Brown has the fifth-most wins in NBA history, and is a lock to be a future Hall of Famer. He is the only coach in the history of basketball to win both an NCAA championship (Kansas, '88) and a NBA championship (Detroit, '04). Aside for Brown's disasterous stint as the Knicks coach, he has earned his keep by being a turnaround artist (prounounced 'are-teest'). For instance, as San Antonio's head coach in the late eighties Brown went 21-61 in first season but was able to improve to 56-26 in his season, leading them to the playoffs. The Bobcats are hoping he can work some of his magic in Charlotte.
Emeka Okafor is back
The Bobcats did what they had to do to bring back their enforcer, locking up Okafor to a $72 million deal over the next six years. Okafor is the Bobcats' all-time leader in rebounds, blocked shots and double-doubles. Speaking of double-doubles, Okafor averaged nearly 14 ppg and 11 ppg last season, which puts him in the company of Tim Duncan, Steve Nash and Dwight Howard as the only players to average a double-double in each of the last four seasons. If they didn't bring back Okafor, they would've had to have been outbid substantially or be clinically out of their collective minds.
Backcourt help
While Raymond Felton has always been a bit of a stat-packer, posting a respectable 14.4 ppg and 7.4 apg last season, he has struggled with consistency and never seemed like the ultimate answer for the Bobcats at the point. Enter D.J. Augustin, one of the most NBA-ready point guards in this year's draft. A confident, quick, pass-first point guard, Augustin should provide stability for the Bobcats backcourt, especially when Felton is off his game. Being that Felton and Augustin are quite different types of players, I can actually see them trading off playing time based on the situations and needs within any given game.
Still thin in the middle
The Bobcats have some solid frontcourt bangers in Okafor and May, but if the season started today, Nazr Mohammed would likely be your Bobcats starter at center. Who knows, maybe Mohammed's late season performances were an indication of good things to come. Don't get me wrong, I think Mohammed is a solid contributor, but as a starting center who isn't particularly game-changing on either end, it is definitely an identified weakness for the Bobcats.
Bouncing back from the injury bug
It will be interesting to see how the Bobcats intent to re-incorporate Adam Morrison and Sean May into their rotation this season. Morrison's injury was particularly unfortunate, as he was looking for some redemption from a highly inefficient and disappointing season. A year in street clothes with a bad taste in your mouth cant be great for the psyche. Also, it wouldn't hurt for Gerald Wallace to take his nickname "Smash" less literally as he has had several concussions due to his agressive style of play.

The Bobcats have the pieces in place to be successful in this league. Last season they competed at a very high level and lost a lot of close games. Another year of experience, a great coach and a healthy team could have the Bobcats thinking playoffs this season.
